Fall—it’s the season when many outreach groups hold an annual fundraiser, often in engaging and creative ways. If your group has held a unique fundraiser, share about it!
Our fall fund raiser was fantastic! This is our sixth year doing what we call Basket A-Fair. Throughout the year our planning team purchased items (often on clearance!) to make up gift baskets. We asked those attending our outreach luncheons to donate empty baskets and new items to place in gift baskets. Then in September we set aside three or four days and created and wrapped baskets. The home of our area representative, Joan became Basket Central! This year we created 184 gift baskets! We had baskets for every gift occasion – women, children, Christmas, autumn, men, babies, even pets! We labeled the baskets so all items were listed. We wrapped each one in cellophane wrap, and Betty, our bow expert, attached an appropriate topping to each basket, all bows handmade by her. We sold the baskets via silent auction at our outreach luncheon in place of the special feature. Plus doors opened early.
Every publicity opportunity was taken for this event. There were three free articles in the local paper, and we got sponsorship to do some radio and print advertising.
The Result?! All baskets were auctioned off, and we raised $3127! Best of all we had 23 first-timers attend (usual attendance is 50-60, this month it was 78) and one woman made a decision for Jesus Christ. There were several requests for Stonecroft Bible studies too! It was a really successful event.
Lynnlil, Out standing repoert! I am all about picking sanctified successful brains for everything! Especially for the fall Stonecroft fund raiser! Ours is good but it can always be more successful! We only had about 35 baskets for our silent auction and various gifts for live auction and still raised $1500. We have a single/young/handsome/professional auctioneer who is so fun and a great draw for the young women. He comes for his auntie who he loves and who is terminal with cancer. This year she told him “I may not be here next year … will you still come for this an be their auctioneer?” He said “of course I will.” We will use some of your ideas to make it more successful and fun! I know that will make her happy to hear because she wants him to continue to hear the gospel until he responds! Thanks and lol …Faye Marie from Clatskanie, OR
